Adult Nudity and Sexual Activity

Overview

Due to the global nature of our platform, and the focus on news and information, we restrict displays of nudity and sexual activity even by adults and consenting adults. This applies to both real and digitally created content, unless posted for educational or acceptable news worthy purposes that meet our Editorial Standards.

Acceptable, news worthy displays of nudity may include things such as protests, intent to raise awareness about a cause, or for educational or medical reasons. We allow content depicting acts of protest, breast-feeding and imagery related to post-mastectomy surgery. We also permit imagery related to childbirth, both during and after-birth moments that may depict genitalia or the anus, or for health-related situations we include a warning label so that people are aware that the content may be sensitive. We also allow content of paintings, sculptures, and other art that depicts nude figures, but draw the line at pornography.

These standards are above and beyond the restrictions on Exploitation and Sexual Solicitation.

What happens if you violate these standards?

What is in violation of these standards?

• Real or digital art imagery of nude adults which show exposed genitalia, the anus, buttocks, or female nipples

• Imagery displaying or depicting sexual activity that includes exposed genitalia, the anus, buttocks, or female nipples:

  • Explicit or implied sexual activity that includes intercourse, oral sex or sexual stimulation

  • Implied sexual activity and stimulation, even if the genitals are not shown

• Other sexual activities

  • Real images of erections

  • Presence of by-products of sexual activity

  • Sex toys placed upon or inserted into mouth

  • Stimulation of naked human nipples

  • Squeezing female breasts, defined as a grabbing motion with curved fingers that shows both marks and clear shape change of the breasts

• Fetish content that involves:

  • Acts that are likely to lead to the death of a person or animal

  • Dismemberment

  • Cannibalism

  • Feces, urine, spit, snot, menstruation or vomit

  • Bestiality

• Extended audio of sexual activity

• Adult sexual activity in digital art, except when posted in an educational or scientific context and shown only to individuals 18 years and older.

What is not in violation of these standards?

Content that

• is meant to report on or cover events or actions of importance to the public good without providing prohibited depictions as described above

Content described below must be accompanied by a warning and only shown to individuals age 18 and older:

• Content in a medical or health context which can include, for example:

  • Birth-giving and after-birth giving moments, including both natural vaginal delivery and caesarean section

  • Gender confirmation surgery

  • Genitalia self-examination for cancer or disease prevention/assessment

  • Medical or health coverage that includes things like cancer screening, disease prevention or outbreak, surgeries.
